• STORY TIME •
It’s never too early to introduce your child to books 📚
Books introduce your child to new worlds and can help your child learn language.
Did you know that there’s more than one way to read a book?
➡️ You don’t have to start at the beginning
➡️ You can skip pages and not finish the book
➡️ You can talk about the pictures and not read the words
➡️ You can change the words
➡️ You can read the same book over and over again, even in one sitting!
Books lay the foundation for reading and writing ✍️ 📝
➡️ Point to words in the book as you read them
➡️ Show your child interesting words in the environment (e.g. ‘Stop’ sign)
➡️ Show your child how written words “talk” in your house (e.g. Writing a birthday card)
➡️ Sing songs and say rhymes with fun rhythms or make up your own (e.g. “This old man, he played one.”)
➡️ Point out sounds that are the same (e.g. Shoes and shorts start with the same sound!)
Have fun and make reading a part of your everyday!
