Exercise Physiology

Exercise Physiology

Exercise Physiologists specialise in exercise interventions for those who have existing, or are at risk of developing, medical conditions and injuries.

Interventions include healthy behaviour coaching, education on lifestyle strategies, exercise advice, and physical rehabilitation.

The aim of exercise physiology is to support people to reduce the impact of their disability or illness and restore optimal physical function.

There are a wide range of reasons why a person may benefit from seeing an exercise physiologist, including:

  • Back pain
  • Disabilities
  • Injuries
  • Arthritis
  • Diabetes
  • Heart and lung diseases
  • Cancer recovery
  • Osteoporosis
  • Balance issues and falls prevention
  • Weakness
  • Reduced mobility

…and much more!

Exercise Physiology for children

Exercise Physiologists can also specialise in behavioural modification programs for children.

Our EPs aim to make sessions fun and engaging, all the while using appropriate prescription to meet your child’s goals. The “disguised” exercises and activities worked through will cater to your child’s needs considering their age, growth, and stage of development. Sessions can be in-clinic or off-site including schools and local parks.

EP sessions can target many areas, including

  • development of gross and fine motor skills
  • core strengthening
  • balance and spatial awareness
  • social interaction
  • encouraging long-term physical activity for a healthy lifestyle

Additionally, regular exercise has many benefits for children including physical, social, emotional, sensory, and even improved language skills.
